Watch Now Argentina vs Iceland My Dad And I Were Homeless and Had to Sleep in Our Car

Gaby’s father and her step-mother decided to get a divorce, which wasn’t all that much of a surprise overall but it came rather suddenly, and at a really bad time because her father was out of work and was having a lot of trouble finding a new job.

At first her step-mom was really kind and told them that she would pay the rent for a month, and that they could stay, while he found a job and a new place for the two of them to live. The apartment had been hers to begin with.

But only a few days later she had kind of forgotten all about her offer and asker Gaby’s dad for the rent money. He told her he didn’t have the money and reminded her that she had offered to pay, to go easy on the divorce while he got things settled and started up somewhere else. Her dad was trying, and looking for a job, and all of that in the middle of a divorce.

She got super mad, denied ever saying that, yelled some more about the divorce and told Gaby and her dad to pack their bags into the car and leave. They didn’t have a choice, with no money and no place to go, only their car and clothes, they shoved a single mattress into the backseat of their car and spent the night homeless, in a car. Gaby spent that night crying, shaken, scared and uncertain, she never imagined she would be homeless, sleeping in a car.

The next morning they watched the house to see when her stepmom left for work and then they quickly went into the house, showered, and grabbed the rest of their things. And still, after all that had happened, Gaby had to go to school. All of her best friends had heard about what happened and they were all really supportive and some of them even offered to have them stay with them and their families, anything other than sleeping in a car.

But, instead, her Dad found a public park that had bathrooms, and one stall that never got used where they stored their larger stuff. Her dad made a shower out of a hose that ran into one of the bathrooms and that’s how they bathed every night.

The park had a barbecue as well, and that’s where they would cook their meals, all the time sleeping in the car, homeless.

Gaby and her dad lived like that, shopping for food a day at a time, eating and showering in the park, and sleeping in their car, for a few months. Finally, one of her dad’s friends somehow found out what was going on and insisted that they come to stay at his house for a couple of weeks while her dad continues his job search.

Her dad was embarrassed, and ashamed, but he needed the help and he accepted his friend’s offer to put them up. With the very little money that he had all he could afford for them was a shared house, with lots of people living in it, totally cramped and uncomfortable, and the people there were really weird and acted really strange. Gaby and her dad really hated it there. It was almost worse than sleeping in a car.

On day her dad got great news – he had gotten an offer for a really decent job, but, it was in another state. Gaby really didn’t want to move, didn’t want to leave all her friends and move away – but – she knew that they needed to and that her dad needed that job.

They had to go all the way from New South Wales to the Norther Territory. She pretty much cried the whole way.

But now it’s been three years since they were homeless and sleeping in a car, and since they moved, and she’s now super happy that they have settled into a real home that feels safe and secure.

And, even though it sounds strange, she’s glad that they had that experience because it brought Gaby and her father so much close together, and she saw and learned how much she had taken for granted, and will always appreciate every moment she has and all the blessings that come with them.

Hi, this is Michelle, and this story literally happened yesterday. There’s so much to talk about from last night that she’s not really sure where to start. In brief, she was betrayed by her best friend and she almost died, and both these things happened within fifteen minutes of each other. It all started as a truth or dare game.

Michelle has a group of friends that she’s known since they were all about five years old. There are six of them, all girls, and they’re fourteen now. Actually, a couple of them have already turned fifteen. She won’t bother going through all their names, since she would have to change them anyway to tell this story, but the important thing is that out of all of them her best friend is called Lana. Though she should probably say she HAD a best friend.

Anyway, Michelle and Lana live close to each other, so they’ve always seen each other more often than the others. Over the years, they’ve grown really close, so basically she knows a lot about Michelle and vice versa…or so Michelle thought. Bear in mind also that Michelle is a really, really private person, and she hates telling people personal things, although Lana was an exception. And there are a lot of things about her that even she doesn’t know either.

But nevermind about all that – let’s stick to the story.

Last night, they had a sleepover at Lana’s. Her parents are away on vacation, and they have no problem leaving the whole house to Lana to look after. She’s never caused them any trouble when they’ve gone away in the past, but Michelle can only imagine the looks on their faces when they come back and hear what just happened.

So five of them came over to Lana’s for the sleepover, because one of their friends – let’s call her Judy – got sick. It wasn’t the first time they spent the night at Lana’s, and Michelle herself went over to hang out even more often than the others, since she only lives like, two houses away.

So last night, they first decided to watch a movie, then they cooked dinner together – two of their friends love cooking. After that they decided that they wanted to play something, and someone suggested “Truth or Dare,” the classic sleepover game.

As a very private person, Michelle really hates this game, because she has to pick dare all the time. The idea of telling any secret, even to a group of close friends, is just terrifying for her.

It was okay at the start – there was nothing but harmless questions and easy tasks. Like singing a stupid song, or calling Judy to convince her Ed Sheeran was at the house with them on a surprise visit…it sure sounds dumb now, but shemanaged to sound dead serious, and Judy almost believed her! But the girls spoiled everything when they started laughing, they just couldn’t keep it in anymore.

One thing though, before she moves on to the main part of the story. Lana and Michelle have a classmate called Josh. Josh Hurley, that’s what she’ll call him here. And…thank god this is anonymous…she really, really likes him. He’s justamazing. And he lives right across the street from Lana.

They talk at school every once in a while, but it never goes further than that. Michelle believes it really could go further, but he doesn’t know anything about how she feels. No one does – except for Lana.

So there they were playing, and it was Michelle’s turn again, and of course she picked dare rather than truth. The girls were struggling to come up with a task for her, but after a few minutes Lana said that she had a great idea.

She said that Michelle had to get on the roof of her house and shout “I LOVE YOU JOSH HURLEY!” three times, as loud as she could.

Michelle still can’t believe she said it. Lana knew that she liked Josh, and she knew there was a big chance he’d hear about it sooner or later, and she knew just how embarrassed Michelle wouldbe if she told anyone else.

But at that moment she simply thought: a game is a game, let’s just get it over with. She climbed onto the roof through the bedroom window, and found a spot that looked like it was safe. It was almost midnight, so it was really dark. The girls were all standing at the window ready to film the whole thing.

Just to remind you, the phrase she had to say was “I love you, Josh Hurley.” She shouted it once, dying of embarrassment, then a second time. All of the lights in Josh’s house were off, so she was praying nobody was home. Because if they were, the whole family was going to be woken up by her yelling.

The girls were laughing and cheering. She really wanted it to be over, so she took a deep breath and shouted it out for a third time.

This is Judy. Recently, she was threatened and forced to do things she didn’t want to do and, worst of all, she was forced to lie… all in order to save her reputation.

It all started when she was actually in the first grade. Judy had a classmate named Max. They always hated each other, but as they got older, he started to become interested in her. He asked her out a whole number of times, and there were always the same two reasons why she said no. First, she really didn’t like him because he was a nasty person. Second…she really didn’t have time to go out, because she was always busy.

You see, her family really didn’t have that much money. In fact, they could barely make ends meet. Her mom and dad both worked two jobs, and they still didn’t have enough money. So Judy started working as a janitor at an office when she had the time.

It helped her family, but the effect on her was that she was constantly tired, and also, well…she was a little bit ashamed to be working as a janitor. But she could cope…until one day she saw a familiar face in the office: Max. It turned out that his father worked there and he had dropped by to visit him. So, when he noticed her, he was so surprised and started making mean jokes about her being a maid and stuff. She was incredibly embarrassed and angry, because out of all the people from her school it had to be MAX who had discovered her secret.

The next day he came up to her in school and showed her his phone. There were several photos of her doing her job as a janitor. Judy told him that the photos were creepy and really not okay, but he answered, “If you go out with me once I’ll delete the photos. We’ll go to the movies and stuff, I’ll pay.” She asked: “Or what?” and he said, “Or I’ll show them to everybody”.

But…she felt like she had to accept. She had no other choice about it, really.

So that evening they went to the movies together, and Max tried to act all sweet and cool, buying her snacks and even trying to be romantic – but of course it didn’t work, because he had still manipulated her into going out with him.

The movie ended, they went outside, and Judy asked: “So, will you delete the photos now?” and Max realy didn’t like that and answered “No! If you’re gonna be so ungrateful, I think I’ll hold on to these photos for a little longer.”

She was really angry, but again, what could she do? She had to keep on doing favors for him. It’s possible you might think that she really WAS really ungrateful, because he was spending his money and time on her, but she never asked for it.

Over the next few days, he asked her to take selfies with him to show that they were hanging out together, and told his friends that she was his girlfriend and stuff like that.

The last straw was when they were hanging out in town together and they met a group of their classmates. They started chatting, and then Max took her hand and said “Sorry, me and my girlfriend are busy.”

It was one thing to do something like that in front of HIS friends, but completely different with people who they both knew. He didn’t dare call her his girlfriend on Instagram, but now he had finally done it…She pulled her hand away when their classmates had left, and said with anger in her voice: “Don’t ever do that again! I am NOT your girlfriend!”

Max got furious again, as though she had wounded his pride. He answered “You either do what I want or I’ll show everyone the pictures!” She took a long breath: “Do it. I don’t care. I would rather have everyone laughing at me than spend another minute with YOU!”
Max started to laugh and posted the pictures in front of her. She turned around and went home. She cried all night, knowing that everyone would laugh at her and she would STILL have to go do her job as a janitor.

The next day people were paying a lot of attention to Judy, but not in the way she had expected…a lot of people asked her why she was working as a janitor and why Max had posted photos about it. She explained the situation and many of them were impressed that she was so…mature. She had more work experience than her whole class combined. And they all said that they had thought there was something fishy about Max claiming to be her “boyfriend.”

It was priceless seeing Max’s reaction to it all. He wanted everyone to mock her, but instead, people were just vaguely interested or didn’t care at all.

Judy kept thinking throughout the whole ordeal that she “didn’t have a choice” about her situation. But she was dead wrong. You ALWAYS have a choice. Even if the outcome can be bad, it’s still a choice, and she’s vowed that she will never let bad people manipulate her ever again.

Hi, this is Valerie, and she’s always dreamed of having a brother or a sister. And one day her wish came true…but not in the way she wanted or expected it to. Her family had always been a happy one – her beautiful mom, who was always busy with some new hobby or interest, her calm and even sometimes overly conventional dad, and her! But then everything changed, and she learned that her dad wasn’t…that conventional. One day she got a message from some guy called Jason, who wrote to her saying, “I think I’m your brother.”

What??? Her BROTHER? Valerie answered, “No, I think you’re mistaken,” and that was the end of it…for the moment. Soon, she noticed her parents talking to each other with a lot of concern in their voices, and her mom getting very angry at her dad. Then, her parents told her what it was all about. Her mom said, “Sweetie, dad wants to tell you something.” Her dad continued: “Valerie, when I was young, I had a girlfriend, before your mother. And it turns out that she got pregnant and had a son, and I’m the father. I didn’t know anything about it until he texted me.”

She was shocked. This boy, Jason, WAS actually her…older brother? It was clear just how hard her parents were taking this news. It turns out that Jason’s mother, her dad’s…ex-girlfriend, never wanted to bother him, especially when she found out that he had started dating her mom, but now she had health problems and she couldn’t work, and they desperately needed help. Her dad went to meet with Jason after a few days, and when it happened it was very weird for all of them, especially for her mom. In fact, afterwards Valerie’s dad returned WITH Jason. His mother was in the hospital and he needed a place to live.

Her dad was a little lost and didn’t know what to do with Jason, and whether he ought to act like his father, while her mom was…a little bit jealous, it seems, even though she tried her hardest to be kind. And Valerie…didn’t know what to think, really. Jason was a weird guy. He was a little bit rude and had bad manners. He didn’t pay attention to her mom, was a little angry at her dad (though he understood that the situation wasn’t his fault), and he clearly didn’t like Valerie. And she didn’t like him either, to be honest.

For the first few nights, he had to stay in her room. He looked over her things and said, “I never had this much stuff.” She didn’t know what to say. She felt simultaneously guilty and annoyed…it was really confusing. He touched everything, and she said, “Hey, can you…not touch my things?” and he looked at her and said “Why, do you think I’m going to steal them?” It was so awkward and weird. Thankfully, he moved into another room after a few days. Her dad would ask him to wash his dishes after eating or to help him in some other way, but he didn’t listen, which annoyed everyone, especially her mom, because her dad was using a big chunk of his money to help Jason and his mother. Honestly, everyone HATED Jason. Yes, they felt sorry for him, but still he annoyed them so much. Basically, her family’s lives were pretty chaotic during this period.

One day, Valerie accidentally broke a vase that her mom had made. Usually her mom kept her cool whatever happened, but because she had been so nervous and tired recently, she was really angry at her. Then Jason came in and said, “It wasn’t Valerie, it was me.” Her mom looked at Jason angrily, but didn’t say anything. She asked Jason later why he said it, and after thinking for a while, he said: “You’re my sister.” She couldn’t believe it. Yeah, he was weird and rude, but he had defended her for some reason. She said “Thank you,” and that was it. The days that followed were worse – they tried to hide it, but she could tell that her parents were arguing about Jason every day.

One night, when her parents were asleep, she heard some noise. She checked and it was Jason, putting his shoes on. “Where are you going?” she asked. He looked at her and answered, “I don’t belong here.” She stare into his eyes while he was putting his jacket on, and saw who he really was. Not some rude, mean guy, but someone whose life had taken a horrible turn – his mom was sick, his father was…well, her father. Out of all of them, HE was the one having the hardest time. So she locked the door and said, “No, don’t leave.” He asked “Why?” and she responded: “You’re my brother.”

Hello, this is Sam, short for Samantha. Imagine that you once wrote a play and people agreed to act in it, an audience actually came to see it, and then…absolutely EVERYTHING went wrong and it turned into a complete DISASTER, so much so that you can’t help but cringe every time you think about it.

That’s what happened to Sam. She’ll begin by saying that she’s always liked writing, acting, and basically everything connected to storytelling. She started writing short stories when she was a little kid, and she kept it up when she joined the drama club at school.

Once, when her club was considering what new play to put on, someone said that she should write one because she was good at it. And of course, Sam agreed! Their teacher and director said that they would even let her partially direct it if she wanted to.

So she picked one of her short stories and turned it into a play. It was a very touching story about five people falling in love, so it was kind of like a love triangle, or like…maybe, a love pentagon? Everyone liked it, so they decided to go ahead and do it. And Sam worked very hard on it: she took on one of the main roles herself, and also decided to direct a lot of it.

Their teacher suggested that Sam choose one of these two things – acting or directing, because she wouldn’t be able to handle the workload, but she was adamant that she could do everything. And as you may have already guessed, that turned out to be a big mistake.

Soon everybody hated her because she was so strict. A lot of people in the drama club just wanted to have fun and express themselves; they weren’t as ambitious as she was, and while she understands that now, she didn’t back then.

She barely got any sleep, because she was spending most of her time memorizing the lines for her role, preparing the set design, and other stuff like that. Every day she would imagine how it would go, and how everyone would be so impressed, but as you already know, ultimately that wasn’t what happened.

The day of the play finally came. The auditorium was full of people from Sam’s school, and even complete strangers who were just simply interested in the play. She was nervous, but at the same time convinced that it would all go as planned.

The first scene started with one of the characters giving a short monologue, presenting the story and the characters. The guy, let’s call him George, started and…he forgot his lines. So instead he was like “What is life? Is it just a series of events or…um…not, uummm…?” Sam was FURIOUS. Luckily the sound guy came to the rescue and put the music on so they could continue.

The second scene started and all of the actors went out onto the stage, but another girl accidentally bumped into the set and the whole thing literally FELL down. Like, all of it – everything they had prepared over several weeks just fell down, and she still doesn’t even know how that was possible.

Everyone started to panic, but she wasn’t ready to accept defeat, so she said (in character) “the set fell, because we live in the real world and talk about real problems!”

And it worked! It looked like it was part of the script, you know.

But soon, everything started to go wrong again – everybody was forgetting their lines and sounding like they were really stupid. People in the audience started to laugh, and when the interval came, people were begging her to stop the play because they had already made complete fools of themselves.

But Sam said: “no, we’ve been preparing this play for months and we’re just gonna let this happen!? No way, the show must go on!” She was sure that it couldn’t get any worse, and a few stumbles wouldn’t ruin her play.

Well, you already know how mistaken she was. The next few scenes went very well, it seemed as if everything was starting to go as planned, but then…it turned out that the guy who had forgotten his lines at the beginning and in the next scene was so embarrassed that he had just quietly left. And he was essential to the story.

When they had another spare moment, Sam gathered all the actors together and quickly told them how they would adapt the story to work without him. They begged her to just put an end to it, but she again said “no”, somehow managing to persuade them that it would get better.

The play continued, and you could see how everyone was getting confused by the sudden changes. They were messing up lines and interrupting each other, and it was impossible to understand what was happening. Their teacher was really embarrassed, and the people in the audience were confused…

if you want to know what will happen next, watch the video to the end.

This is Lindsay, and she’s such a mess! She’s in deep deep trouble, and she needs to concentrate in order to tell you what she has to tell. And she’s not even at her worst now! Hold on – first she should probably tell you what her problem is. Well, she has obsessive-compulsive disorder or OCD. There, she’s said it. And she feels pretty ashamed about it, thank God this is anonymous!

Ok, well, time to concentrate. Lindsay is 15, and she’s on the path to happiness – and happiness for her is when her thoughts leave her. Right, she still hasn’t told you what OCD is. Sorry for that. She’ll tell you what it’s about, and then give you some examples, ok? So, it’s actually when you have certain thoughts all the time that don’t leave you, and you’re afraid that you can make something horrible happen to you. And you become so ashamed of yourself that you try to prevent these things from happening by doing other things, even if you don’t want to do them…It sounds pointless, but she did tell you she’s a mess.

Lindsay is adopted. She doesn’t like to recall that time before she was adopted, but it might help you to understand things better. The point is that Lindsay’s biological father was in jail and her biological mother didn’t take care of her at all. She was only five at the time, and the problem is that she can remember everything that happened! She’s heard that some people just forget traumatic things that happen to them, but that’s definitely true in her case. Her memories have been stalking her for years! But luckily she was adopted soon after, and she adores her foster parents. To her, they’re her real mom and dad.

So, they took her home and everything was finally ok. They took her to a psychologist to help overcome her past trauma, and eventually they concluded that she was finally over it. Well, yes, she was over it, more or less. However when she was around seven years old, Lindsay started having THAT THING. What thing? Well, don’t laugh, but it went like this. For example, she might be just sitting calmly in her room and then suddenly feel that she absolutely needs to go and check if she has closed the door to the bathroom. Well, who cares if it’s closed? What’s the difference, you might ask? But still she gets up and goes there to check. It turns out that it’s closed. She goes back to her bedroom. She sits down and thinks: “But I haven’t checked if it’s closed tight”. So she gets up and goes to check again. It’s closed tight. She sit downs again and thinks: “Am I really sure I’ve closed it well?” And so on and on it goes, at least five or six times.

Lindsay knows it’s stupid! But she really feels that if she doesn’t do it, something horrible will happen. She just can’t control herself. And that was just when she was seven. Since then she’s gone much much further down this path. The strange ideas have multiplied in her head – she now has to check and recheck that she’s put everything in its proper place; that everything is in order; all the plates in the kitchen are arranged by colors and all of her shoes in the closet are perfectly aligned. She spends a lot of time each day carrying out strange rituals to make sure everything is fine, but the things she has to check increase in number all the time. And what’s worse is that she’s suddenly started feeling guilty. She’d already realized that she wasn’t normal, and because she was adopted she felt bad that her wonderful parents ended up with a freak like her. So never wanted to tell them that she had problems, to avoid them being disappointed with her.

As Lindsay grew up, she had lots of other obsessive thoughts. She wanted to be a perfect daughter for her parents, and she was constantly afraid that she would embarrass them somehow. When she was with them in public, she was terrified that at some point she would start shouting obscenities. Why would she do that, you ask? Well, why wouldn’t she? This can happen to anyone, that was the thought she had, and she was constantly afraid it would be her. She started thinking about it over and over. She tried not to think about it, but it’s like not thinking about a polar bear – you literally can’t think about anything else when the thought is put in your head. She experienced other irrational fears in addition to that – for example, that she might cut her mom’s new dress into pieces. That she might spill coffee all over her dad’s laptop. And many, many more. She couldn’t study or do anything else – she thought about these things literally all the time.

This is Amy, and she’s depressed. And until recently, not even her parents believed her.

Since she became a teenager, Amy has always felt a bit…sad. But over the past few years, it has grown into something more. Until recently, she couldn’t understand what it really was. Most of the time, she felt so exhausted and miserable. Even getting out of bed was hard.

She felt like there was no point in anything. She didn’t care about her grades or her friends; it was like nobody cared about her and nothing interested her. She spent her evenings watching TV shows and crying, because the world seemed like such a bad place.

At some point she realized that she was depressed. She didn’t want to believe it at first, because nowadays everyone says they’re depressed. But she couldn’t run away from the truth any more. So she decided it was time to explain it to her parents.

She thought they would understand, or at least try to, but sadly that wasn’t the case. Amy’s dad just said, “kids are so soft nowadays, nobody was depressed back in my day”, while her mom was hardly any more helpful: “it’s all in your head, sweetie, you just have to be more positive”.

Their reactions made her even more miserable, because she couldn’t even talk to her parents. She had friends, but they clearly didn’t want to listen to her any more. She doesn’t blame them, because it was really annoying to listen to her talking about her depression all the time even for her.

She checked out some online communities on depression and people recommended that she go see a psychiatrist. She asked her parents many times, explaining how important it was to her, and eventually, they agreed, although they didn’t want to.

Amy felt hope for the first time in a long while. She went to the doctor with her parents. He was an older man, and he was kind of weird – he didn’t even look at her, and wasn’t really very interested in what she actually had to say. She explained her situation, but he kept asking her the same questions about school and stress, and in the end, he said that she was just tired because of school and needed some rest.

Amy was shocked, but her parents were basically happy with his verdict. To their credit, they really did try to make her feel better. They allowed her to skip a few days of school and have a bit of fun. Only she really didn’t want to have fun. She didn’t want to do anything except stay in her bed and cry.

After she went back to school, things got even worse. Her teachers were angry with her for not doing her homework and not paying attention in class, but she didn’t respond, so they just stopped bothering her entirely. The same thing happened with her classmates – they didn’t pay any attention to her because she always sat alone, staring out the window or reading a book or something.

At this point Amy started to believe that her parents were right, and she just had to be grateful for what she had, so she tried to start talking to people and to study a bit harder. But she just couldn’t find the strength to do it.

One day, her dad got angry with her for being ungrateful and spoiled. He said “you don’t want to talk to us, you don’t want to study! Tell me, what DO you want!?”

She stared at him, because she didn’t know what to say. She didn’t want anything. He kept berating her, and she couldn’t take it any more, and she started crying loudly. She never cried like that; it was always silent weeping in her room, but this time it was like she had a mental breakdown.

Through her tears, she said a lot of stuff like: “I’m worthless, I don’t even feel like a person, I don’t know how to do anything and I’ll never get better!” This was only a small part of all the thoughts that were inside her head, most of them were way worse.

Her parents were shocked, because this was the first time that she had revealed her real feelings to them. After a few days, her mom came into her room and said: “I talked with dad, and we believe you. What can we do for you?” For Amy, this was the first time in a while when she felt like something good happened to her. She asked them if they could try another psychiatrist. They agreed.

Amy’s new psychiatrist was younger than the previous one, and he was very attentive to her and asked a lot of questions – and this time actually listened to her answers. She told him everything she had felt throughout the past few years, and it was so liberating to finally find a person in real life who would listen to her.

Eventually, he did a few tests with her and diagnosed Amy with chronic depression. Her parents couldn’t believe it at first, but she could see how worried they were and it was a nice feeling.

This is Jane, and her story is pretty crazy, because of one peculiar thing about her dad…

It’s hard to explain, but basically Jane’s dad really wanted her to be a fully independent person. He always thought that the world was a scary place, so he felt obligated to prepare her for anything that could happen in her adult life.

It all started when her mom died when Jane was very young. At first, he taught her very useful things, like cooking for example. By the age of 10, she was already very good at it; she was even able to make a few fancy dishes.

By the age of 15 she knew how to chop wood, what the best course of action was in case she had to be a defendant in court, and which medicine was required for almost any type of emergency. She doesn’t know if you could justifiably call her dad’s behavior in this respect “overprotective” because in her view it’s kind of the opposite.

Anyway, one thing Jane really didn’t want to learn was driving. She knew that she would of course need it at some point in her life, but it was seriously stressful for her. She was horrible at driving because she got way too nervous, and her lack of skill made her even more nervous. And then she had to learn all those rules – ugh…but of course her dad insisted on it, saying that it was very important that she learn to drive in case of an emergency.

Sometimes her dad took her on camping trips. She had always loved them when she was a kid. Going to the forest and learning all about it was always cool and exciting, but with school and driving lessons she just wanted to relax a little at the weekends. But her dad still periodically insisted on taking her to the forest to learn something about mushrooms or berries or snakes.

So one time, he announced that they were going to the forest again, and they were going to go there in their car. This time her dad took away her phone, saying that she probably wouldn’t have her phone if she got lost in the forest, so she shouldn’t rely on it. Besides being incredibly annoying, sometimes Jane thought her dad was actually crazy.

They finally arrived at the forest, and parked somewhere pretty far in. Jane’s dad started his usual lectures about surviving in nature, about how to remember the names of trees and stuff like that. She still enjoyed it, but she also wanted to sleep so badly, so she mostly ignored what he was saying and just nodded a lot, pretending that she was listening attentively.

Then suddenly, her dad put a hand over his chest. “Ooof,” he said “Jane, I don’t feel so good…” She became confused, but then her dad started walking toward their car. “Let’s go home, Jane.” Now she was starting to worry. Her dad worked out regularly, so he was in tip-top shape. What was happening?
Her dad sat in the passenger seat and said, “Jane, quick, I need an ambulance…”

Jane was panicking. She reached for her phone, and then remembered: her dad had taken it away. So she was like “what do I do, dad? What do I do?” His eyes were closed by this point, and he simply said “drive…”

She was like “oh no…” She hated driving. And she wasn’t any good at it. And her dad’s car was much bigger than the one her driving instructor used. But…she realized that she didn’t have any choice at that moment.

So she sat in the driver’s seat, tried all the pedals and checked everything, and, in a very nervous state, tried to start the car. Once, twice, and then it finally started at the third attempt. But she always did badly at getting the car moving, so she let go of the clutch pedal very softly, beginning to press the gas pedal at the same time, and then the car stalled, so she started everything again. Her whole body was trembling, and she kept failing again and again. Her heart was racing, and she knew if she didn’t get a grip and get going, her dad might actually…die! He was already unconscious, so she HAD to do this.

And she finally did do it – they started moving. But it was very hard to move correctly on a dirt road, it was bumpy and narrow, so she couldn’t gain a lot of speed, and her father was groaning with pain more and more, so she had to keep going despite her panicked thoughts.

She also had to remember the way to the city, because of course, the forest was huge and had very few roads. She kept going despite wanting to just stop and cry.

And FINALLY, Jane did it!

This is Jenny, and she feels really helpless. Most things in her life are fine but there’s just one major problem. She’s always late for EVERYTHING.

She understands that she can only blame herself for this, but she honestly doesn’t know what to do.

Being late is never a problem when you’re a kid. Your parents take you to places and then you go back home – at least that’s what it was always like for her. But the good thing was that her mom and dad always valued her independence. Her parents care for her, but at the same time they let her make her own decisions and choices, so that she learns to control her own life.

And you know what? It seems to work. She’s sixteen now, and she’s already learned to figure out a lot of stuff on her own, so moving to college (for example) won’t be a huge problem for her.

The only thing that she constantly fails at is getting to places on time.

She can’t even remember when the last time was that she managed to catch the school bus, so she usually has to take the public one. More than that, she doesn’t really remember the last time she walked to the bus stop – because every time she has to run for it.

That’s not the worst part of it all, though – it’s not even the bad part. Jenny’s problems start when she gets to school. Different teachers react to students being late in different ways, as you guys know. Some of them don’t pay much attention, some even pretend they that they didn’t notice.

But the worst thing happens on Wednesdays, when her first class is chemistry. Her chemistry teacher, Mrs, Rodney, just goes crazy when someone’s even a minute late for her class. So imagine being yelled at every time you come in after the bell. She knows it’s all her fault, but a couple of times Mrs. Rodney just refused to let her in to the room and doubled her homework for the next week! That’s a bit too much!

Once they had a drama project, and Jenny’s actually done quite a lot of acting, ever since she was a kid. She knew she was the most experienced actor in the group, so she was quite sure the teacher was going to give her the main part. And he actually was, but…guess what…she was half an hour late for the first class of the year, and he gave the main role to another girl instead. And when this was happening she was chatting to her friends in the school yard, not even realizing the class had already started.

She’s tried a lot of different things to fix it. First of all, she tried to figure out what was wrong with her. “Where do I lose so much time?” she thought. And she soon realized that it was a couple of minutes here, a couple of minutes there…and then you’re running late already. No matter how early she woke up, she still managed to lose all the time she had.

And it wasn’t only about mornings and being late for school. Every time her friends and Jenny went out, she was super-late. If they went to the movies, you could be sure that she’d be awkwardly sneaking between the rows fifteen minutes into the film.

The worst thing happened to Jenny about a month ago. Her friend Hannah and her family were moving to another state. They used to hang out a lot, along with two other friends – Jenny and Mike. So the three of them decided to see Hannah off at the airport.

They made a huge poster with their pictures and good wishes, because none of them knew when they might see her again. It was all prepared, Jenny set her alarm clock for early in the morning, and she actually woke up on time, had her breakfast…and then this THING happened again. In the blink of an eye she found herself running late to the bus stop.

Then the bus got stuck in traffic, and she lost another fifteen minutes. Jenny texted her asking where she was, but she was too embarrassed to answer, and she thought she’d still make it. Then she couldn’t find the right entrance at the airport, then there was the security check, and then…

She found Jenny and Mike standing in the departure zone, with Hannah and her parents gone. She hadn’t made it. She was late again.

She talked to Hannah afterwards, and she said that it was fine, but she knew it wasn’t. She might not see one of her best friends for years, and she had missed her chance to say goodbye.

It was devastating. But at least something good came out of it, as she finally realized that her problem was just destroying her life. She’s really working on it now. The thing she learnt recently is that if you want control over your life, you need to get stuff in order. Not just time management – everything!

She’s also thinking of getting a summer job when the school year ends, to earn some money to visit Hannah. She hopes she doesn’t get fired for being late all the time!

Watch Now France vs Australia I Am Afraid After The Synagogue Shooting in Pittsburgh

By Bella | Subscribe: | Record your story @ or our iPhone app for a chance to get animated. Comment, like, share this story.

Bella lives in a neighborhood called Squirrel Hill in Pittsburgh. She’s grown up there, lived there her whole life, has her friends and her synagogue there, right near the Tree of Life synagogue, and it had always been a peaceful neighborhood – diverse and accepting – a really nice place to live. There were a lot of Jewish families who lived there and she could hardly remember any anti semitism ever happening around them.

But, on Saturday, October 27th, she slept in late and only woke up when her mom called to her from the other room at around eleven o’clock. She ran in to her Mom’s room and her younger sister was there and they looked awful, pale, afraid and scared. Bella didn’t know what was going on, and her mom would only whisper because she didn’t want Bella’s youngest sister to wake up. But something really, really bad was going on – you could tell from the terrified looks on her Mom and sister.

Her mom asked is she’d looked at her phone yet, if she’d seen or heard any of what was on the news. She’d heard lots of sirens in her half sleep, but they didn’t wake her – what was going on? Her mom sat her down and told her that there had been a mass shooting at a temple – the Tree of Life synagogue right there in squirrel hill.

Bella gasped and sat down hard. She was so scared, afraid, shaking and crying. She was just in shock that something like this had happened, in their neighborhood, at a synagogue that was practically right next to the one she attended. Also, the fact that it was all because of their religion, all because they were Jewish, and this scared Bella too – the ant-semitism, and all these shootings taking place everywhere.

What made the tragedy even worse was the fact that it was Shabbat, the holiest day of the week for the Jewish people — all they were doing was praying — and that morning the Tree of Life synagogue was having a baby naming for a new baby just born into their community, a special and festive and happy occasion. And an evil man full of hate and anti semitism came into their place of worship and shot and killed 11 people, including police and security guards.

When Bella and her friends returned to their religious school, hebrew school, so many of them were on edge, scared, and couldn’t quite put into words how awful and vulnerable it made them feel. Why was there anti semitism, or hate of any kind? Why couldn’t people coexist without hatred and gun violence?

After they had started their school day they had a special morning prayer service and they invited the congregation from the Tree of Life synagogue to join them. There were so many people there, mourning and praying, holding hands and supporting each other – praying for peace, and love, and for the souls of the those who passed to ascend. And they chanted and sang words of power, that they were strong and that they would not be afraid.

The Pittsburgh synagogue shooting has effected jews all over the United States and the world, and all people who enjoy feeling safe and free to worship how they choose under any religion they choose. Hopefully the families affected by this tragedy will be able to feel one day that those they lost did not die in vain and that they re-awakened the need for peace, and love, and light across the entire world.

Watch Now France vs Australia I Wish I Never Moved Away

By Dejah | Subscribe: | Record your story @ or our iPhone app for a chance to get animated. Comment, like, share this story.

Dejah was born and raised in Aurora Colorado. She took her first steps there, spoke her first words there and made her first friend there. It was where all of her most important firsts happened. Basically, everyone and everything that was closest to Dejah’s heart was in Colorado.

One day she was hanging out in her room, on her cellphone, when she heard her Grandma and her Mom talking downstairs in the kitchen and she heard her mom say that she got a promotion and that they would be moving from Colorado to Illinois. But it kind of went in one ear and out the other. Dejah’s Mom is always playing jokes on them and teasing them so she just didn’t believe it – it seemed so far out.

But, two weeks later her parents, mother and father, pulled Dejah and her younger brothers together and told them, as if it was no big deal, as if it was actually a good thing – We’re Moving to Chicago!!!! And, even though he smiled and hugged her Mom and congratulated her – she wasn’t happy about it, not at all.

The plan was that her parents would move to Chicago first and set up the new house and get settled while Dejah and her brothers stayed with their grandparents and packed everything up. But Dejah was so upset about the move, not wanting to, and pretty tough and stubborn, and while her brothers and parents and grandparents all worked to pack their stuff up, she refused – just lay on her bed pouting and angry. Packing her room was something she wasn’t going to do. Her Grandma and Dad had to pack all of her things up while she just laid there – unhappy.

Dejah and her brothers waved goodbye to their parents and their loaded car and they set off – two months of the kids with the grandparents and November set as the moved date for the kids. And even though Dejah felt like she would have enough time to get used to the idea of leaving, and be able to spend tons of time with her friends and extended family, November came really quickly and before she knew it it was time to go meet her parents in Chicago and start her new life.

After a lot of tears were shed, and a lot of hugs and goodbyes, Dejah and her brothers boarded a plane to Illinois and off they went. Of course she was happy to see and be with her parents after so much time, but as more time passed and the more time she spent away from Colorado the more sad and unhappy she became.

After a while she started feeling really depressed and had a really short and bad temper – the smallest things would set her off. Of course, her parents noticed that she was having a harder and harder time and they found someone Dejah could talk to, a therapist who could help her find ways to accept the moved and move on.

The therapist helped with her grief, depression and sadness, and explained that she was literally grieving Colorado, and their family dog who had become sick and died before they left – that was hard too.

Now Dejah has good friends at her new school in Illinois, and they have all been really nice and welcoming and that has helped her adjust to being in the new place – she’s caught herself genuinely laughing and smiling, which she hadn’t done for quite some time.

So, today, while she’s doing and feeling so so much better, she has to admit that she is not 100% happy and content, maybe even wish she never moved away because if she never moved away, she might be completely happy. She’s super family oriented and no matter what, most of her family and lifelong friends are in Colorado and looking through all the social media showing them all together, doing the things they used to do with her, well, that doesn’t help – it makes her feel sad for sure.

All that being said, she is finding new things and people and opportunities in Chicago that weren’t in Aurora, and she is starting to appreciate those things more and more. Perhaps things aren’t absolutely perfect for Dejah – yet – but she is open and excited for whatever comes next!
