Watch Now France vs Australia My Parents Love My Younger Sister More Than Me

★ Subscribe ACTUALLY HAPPENED

This is Jennifer, and she has a confession to make. She’s spent a lot of time hating someone very close to her, and now she’s bitterly ashamed of herself. This is her story.

She has a younger sister, Stella. She was 4 years old when her sister was born, and she remembers that she was really enthusiastic to have a little baby sister who she could play with. Well, she was still a baby herself, to be fair. But things went awfully wrong from the very beginning.

Stella was born underweight and had to be kept in the hospital. She struggled for weeks, and all the family’s relatives and friends worried about her. In the meantime, Jennifer was forgotten by everyone. Just three weeks previously, she had been the center of everyone’s attention; everyone played with her and gave her presents, and now everyone was talking only about Stella – no one even wanted to know how Jennifer was! So she found an inventive way to attract the adults’ attention to herself: she threw tantrums. But her parents very soon explained to her that a tantrum doesn’t make everyone forget Stella, and that she should be less selfish.

To be honest, she got very offended, but this passed totally unnoticed by everyone. When they finally brought Stella home, Jennifer felt nothing when she looked at that ugly screaming creature. She couldn’t play with her as they had promised. But at least she finally got her parents back! But no one was ready to spend all day playing with her any more – her parents had other, more important things to do, such as taking Stella to the doctors. Jennifer had to learn to mind her own business and to live with only half of the attention that was supposed to be all hers.

Then she went to school. Things didn’t improve. Stella remained a sickly child, and her parents were constantly dedicating their time, effort and money to curing one illness after or another. And all the while, Jennifer was just an ordinary kid with her school, hobbies, and friends. Her parents gave her attention, but not as much as she needed, and she solved her problems pretty much on her own. Her attitude to her parents became very bitter, and she started detesting that helpless monster of her sister.

When Jennifer became a teenager, things got even worse. It was always “Stella this, Stella that”, while it seemed that since she herself was no longer a child, her parents assumed their job done. She tried to rebel to get more attention, to ask for help, even to talk to them. This is when her parents explained to her that they loved her a lot, but they saw her as an independent person who didn’t need that much support. “Look Jenny, you’re strong, you can literally cope with everything! Stella is weak, she’s sick all the time, who will take care of her? But you won’t have any problems whatever the situation. We’re so proud of you!” Yeah, pride is great, but what about a bit of support?

The worst episode occurred when she was due to go to a new school in another city, and therefore had to move away from her parents for the school term. She’d been asking her parents for ages to buy her a guitar. Everything seemed fine – her sister went to school, and Jennifer thought that finally they would have a well-balanced family. She didn’t communicate much with Stella – she had little in common with her, and wasn’t eager to talk to her when she tried awkwardly to start a conversation. And she was sure that she would get her guitar. Then suddenly Stella got some lung infection and had to stay home for a couple of months, and after that the doctors said that her parents needed to take her to the seaside to convalesce for at least a month. Guess what Jennifer got in return? “Oh sorry dear, a month at the seaside is expensive, can you wait a bit?”

She was furious. Again, that little princess got everything, and now she had to leave home like a stray dog! She didn’t even try to reason with her parents that time, she just left boiling with anger and disappointment. She even imagined how wonderful life would be without Stella, and didn’t feel any sympathy towards her. Those feelings didn’t fade away during the term and she came home all bitter for Christmas. When suddenly, the time came for giving presents. And Jennifer was amazed to see Stella bring out a guitar.

She couldn’t understand what was going on. She knew her parents didn’t have any money. Stella said that it was a present from her personally. She confessed that she’d felt bad for being the reason why their parents hadn’t got Jennifer her guitar, so she spent all her personal savings on one, and even did some odd jobs during the autumn to collect money. Jennifer just broke down in tears. Now she’s trying to improve her relationship with her parents and her sister. She’s learned that hating someone without really knowing them well is childish and can backfire on you.

Watch Now France vs Australia I’m A Tomboy, And No One Wants To Date Me

★ Subscribe ACTUALLY HAPPENED:

This is Jo. Actually, her name is Josephine, but you wouldn’t be able to imagine a person less suitable to be called Josephine. She’s a tomboy, and she’s proud of it. However, life as a tomboy is not as amusing as you might imagine. She’s faced a lot of problems, and she wants to tell you about them.

Jo had trouble communicating with other girls right from her early childhood. She remembers one time when a large group of children had gathered in one place for a party or something, and her mom gently pushed her towards the other girls and said, “go play with the dolls, make friends with someone!” She diligently started moving dolls here and there and listening to boring talk about girly problems, but all the while she kept looking at the boys, who were playing something thrilling, laughing and doing their boyish stuff. She was so envious that at some point she just silently stood up and joined them. That was the moment when the fun started for her.

Things didn’t improve as the years went by. Jo was always attracted to the world of boys, and all of her friends were boys as well. She felt at ease when she talked to them, and felt that she understood their problems and their way of thinking better. Whereas when she was around girls, she was totally clueless. Their problems were hard for her to follow, especially when they complained about boys.

Jo had to adapt her looks to her lifestyle as well. When she went out with her friends, they always did something active, like skateboarding or exploring abandoned buildings or climbing trees. For these kinds of things, you need to dress in a practical way. She found out that jeans and hoodies are much more comfortable in this respect than typical girls’ clothes, which she had always hated in any case. And that is how she has dressed her whole life. For Jo, it was always a tragedy when they made some formal visit and she needed to dress “properly”, as people would call it. A cute dress, shiny shoes, a neat hairdo… ugh. As you can probably imagine, phrases like “wear skirts, be more feminine, you’re a girl” were the things she kept hearing time and again, until at one point her parents just gave up.

It wasn’t that Jo felt she was ugly or anything, and that being a tomboy was her way of gaining confidence. She actually thinks she’s quite cute, and when she’s forced to be a girly girl she looks no worse than her peers. For her, being a tomboy is a lifestyle, and she’s happy with that. The problem was that some time ago, she’d noticed that her friends had started dating.

One of the things that people were often mistaken about was the belief that because Jo was a tomboy, she must be gay. But she’s actually attracted to boys, not girls. Ironically, she actually gets a lot of backtalking from girls who say that she’s just trying to get attention from all the boys around her. She’s never taken this seriously, because she’s never had THAT kind of attention from the boys. Which is actually the core of her problem.

Yes, she’s seeking her first romance. She has lots of boys around her. So what’s the problem, you might ask. The problem is that they don’t really see her as a girl! They know she’s a girl, of course, but they don’t want to date her, because who would date a bro? Once, there was a boy she liked, and she thought it would be wise to approach him and ask if he wanted to go out with her. And guess what – he just laughed at her! He wasn’t mean or anything, it was more something like “Sorry bro, I don’t see you as a GIRL”. Seeing the look on her face, he corrected himself: “I mean, THAT kind of a girl”. Oh thanks, now that’s much better!

This was the first time when being a tomboy had a negative effect on her life. She even tried to put on make up and a dress, but felt really weird and the boys just looked at her strange as well. She gave up and lost hope. It seemed like it was a price that she had to pay to keep the comfortable and amusing life of a tomboy. She became a bit melancholic looking at all those happy couples, and felt that something was missing from her life for the first time.

One day she was invited out to go skateboarding, but she wasn’t in the mood so she just sat there, watching her friends and thinking her sad thoughts. One of her oldest friends soon came over to sit with her and asked why she was so sad. She didn’t want to lie, so she explained everything as it really was – that no one wanted to date her because no one considered her a potential girlfriend. “Don’t cry”, he said, “I’ll go on a date with you!” She refused out self-respect. “I don’t need charity”, she said. Suddenly, he became very serious and said that he really wanted to. And so she accepted. Accidentally, she had made the same mistake all her friends had made with her – she hadn’t considered his feelings, because you don’t go on dates with buddies. Well, she was mistaken.

Watch Now France vs Australia My Parents Are Nomads And I’m So Tired

★ Subscribe ACTUALLY HAPPENED:

This is Elaine, and she’s very tired. She almost certainly doesn’t have the worst problem you’ve heard about here. She still has both her parents, lots of friends, and good health. So what’s the big deal, you might ask? Well, the point is that her family has moved between 10 towns in 3 years, and now she just wants to have a rest!

Elaine ought to say a couple of words about her parents. They’re really cool, they’re funny and open-minded, they let her do anything she wants – essentially, they’re more like friends than parents to her. As far as she’s aware, before getting married they lived quite an interesting life, traveling the world as backpackers, living in tents and campers. When her mom got pregnant, they decided to get married and settle down in one place, which seemed like the right decision. Despite their hippie lifestyle, they come from rich families and both have quite a good education, so it wasn’t hard for them to find good jobs.

Ironically, Elaine is the complete opposite of her parents. She doesn’t like change, and she doesn’t like to move around a lot. She likes it when her friends and family are by her side, and she enjoys doing the same things every day – it gives her a feeling of safety. Sometimes, her parents laugh and say that she seems to be someone else’s child rather than theirs. Elaine herself sometimes even thinks that she’s a far more serious person than they are, but of course she still loves them a lot and can’t imagine better parents.

But there’s one thing that drives her crazy. Three years ago, her mom gave birth to her baby brother, and her dad got a new, better-paid job. The difference was that he had to move a lot from town to town, staying no more than 3-6 months in each place. Mom and dad were of course delighted by this turn of events – they would have the chance to return to their youth and live the nomadic lifestyle they adore the most. But Elaine was terrified. They couldn’t just let dad go off while the rest of the family remained in one place – being separated from your loved ones even for 3 months is too long. So they would have to follow him everywhere he went.

Elaine remembers packing her bags, and just crying – she was leaving behind everything that she loved so much – her friends, grandparents, everything. But her mom has always known how to comfort her effectively: “Don’t cry sweetie,. You’ll get to see the whole country, and if you’re lucky even the whole world! Life will be so interesting, and we’ll always be together!” Her mom won her over, and off they went into the world.

They were in city #1. Elaine went to a new school; she tried to socialize with new people; found a couple of youth clubs to join and all in all managed to establish a sense of regularity to her life once more. But as soon as she started enjoying it – ta-daaam! They were on the move again. She found herself crying and packing her bags again.

Any child would find this lifestyle tough, let alone a home bird like Elaine. First she tried her best to adapt. Then, she was desperate to leave. Then she became passive, and at some point didn’t even bother to talk to people in the latest school she found herself in – they would be temporary friends for her anyway. Naturally, her grades went down. At some point, Elaine fell into a kind of depression, preferring to stay home and not talk to anyone. Funnily enough, her friends list on social media was overflowing while she in reality had no one to talk to. Each new request from her parents to pack the bags now made her obey passively, and there were no longer any tears. Her mom became worried, and asked what was going on.

Elaine had been keeping it all inside for far too long. She burst into tears and started shouting that she couldn’t handle being a nomad anymore, that she wanted to go to university but her grades were hopelessly low, that she didn’t have a single close friend to talk to and that generally, she was scared to get close to people because she knew in advance that leaving them would be painful. Her mom looked puzzled. Can you imagine that it didn’t even occur to her parents that she might be unhappy? But for Elaine, it was so freaking obvious.

That’s how her parents made the hard decision to send her back to her grandparents to allow her to improve her grades at school, regain her social life, and all in all calm down emotionally. After all, it’s way better this way for everyone, even if she misses them a lot. The only thing she regrets is that she didn’t speak up and express her true feelings earlier, because she lost 3 years to suffering when she could have just talked to her parents and found a compromise.

Watch Now France vs Australia I Don’t Like My Parents Because They Don’t Accept Who I Am

By Buddy | Ready to “wear it out loud?” Merch store open, SHOP NOW: | Subscribe: | Record your story @ or our iPhone app for a chance to get animated. Comment, like, share this story.

Buddy never really liked his parents, and they never truly got along. They argued and disagreed and butted heads over almost everything. They didn’t see eye-to-eye on politics, to religion, to lifestyle and how to raise good healthy happy kids.

Buddy is an atheist, while his parents are very devout Muslims. Buddy is very liberal, while his parents are very conservative. And, Buddy is also unapologetically gay, while his parents, not surprisingly, are extremely homophobic.

But, even though on the inside it was really clear that he didn’t get along with his parents, he was never very public or vocal about his disagreements with his parents. He still needed a roof over his head, and food to eat, and money in his pocket, and he was afraid that if he shared who he really was and what he really believed too strongly they would kick him out of the house, maybe even disown him.

Because of that, he formed what looked like a good relationship with his parents, but it was totally fake and artificial – on the inside, he just didn’t get along with them. They saw him as being practically perfect, a good and trustworthy kid, but Buddy saw that his parents were really flawed.

His mom liked to hold grudges, was very quick to judge people, and liked to enforce really old fashioned gender roles, like boys should do yard work and take out the trash and that girls only belonged in the kitchen and were destined to become subservient housewives. And his father was so invested and distracted by his work that he never formed and real bonds with his children.

He was also upset at the way his four sisters were treated. His parents wouldn’t allow his sisters to have any friends over. They weren’t allowed to have phones, or do any extra curricular activities, or drive once they reached the age where they could legally get their licenses.

And it was even worse with Buddy, especially when he tried to come out to them and tell them he was gay – twice. The first time, his parents begged him to date girls because they saw his coming out as a real threat to them. The second time he tried they just threw out a slew of insults and homophobic falsehoods ranging from the idea that gay people were in fact mentally ill, to the idea that it was a simple choice and he was just making the wrong one. They threatened to disown him and told him he would be a failure in life unless he “fixed himself.”

This all made him so unhappy and he imagined that he would be under the control of his parents for the rest of his life. So, he felt he had to continue to pretend to be the perfect little straight Muslim boy in the house, dating girls and praying and the rest. He didn’t think much of it, had been doing it pretty much his whole life, but when he finally confided in his friends they saw it for what it was, miserable and very, very unhealthy. They asked him to imagine what he would be and how he would feel if he was far enough away from them that they couldn’t watch his every move, and judge and control him.

That was a turning point for him and, realizing his parents were more like prison guards than anything else, he thought of the farthest place he could go without them having a negative impact on him and still be successful and thrive as a young gay man.

After doing a little bit of research he concluded that California would be the best place for him — a thriving LGBT community, a ton of diversity and acceptance, and on the other side of the country from his toxic family life and parents. So, he applied to a few schools in California and, was accepted to attend UCLA! It was one of the happiest moments of his life.

His parents were hesitant about it at first, because of how far away it was, but they were happy to have him go to such a highly acclaimed school – that’s mostly what they cared about.

Since moving to Los Angeles Buddy has never been happier. He is part of a really diverse community with amazing friends, endless support, and a great education. Even though he returns home on Holidays and has to pretend, just like he used to, he is so happy to be out of that toxic house and on his own.

His next wish is for his sisters, that they will recognize the truth about their parents, follow in his footsteps, and escape!

Watch Now France vs Australia My House Burned Down And It Changed My Life

★ Subscribe ACTUALLY HAPPENED:

This is Johnny, and he’s going to tell you a story about a disastrous fire that destroyed his family home and forced him to change his outlook on life.

When he was just 13, Johnny’s family lived in a small but beautiful house. They had good relationships and loved each other, and also, they loved all the things they had there.

It may sound weird to use the word “love” when it’s about things, but there’s no other way to effectively describe it. For example, Johnny’s books, his gaming console and the games for it, his clothes and old toys – all of that stuff really mattered to him. One glance at any one of the things he owned could fill him with warm memories of a particular time.

Those things helped him to cope with his problems and to escape from his ordinary life.

“One day, when Johnny came home from school, he discovered that something terrible had happened. His family home was on fire, and there were firefighters trying to put the blaze out, but it was already too late – there was nothing that could be done to save it. The firefighters explained that it wasn’t their fault – it had something to do with faulty wiring, and they couldn’t have done anything to prevent it.

It’s weird, but it’s hard to process something like that – you don’t immediately start to think about it like it’s a real thing with consequences. You need time to get your head around it.

Johnny and his family didn’t have much time to be sad. They had to find a new temporary place to live, and to talk to different officials and sign documents.

And only then, when they were alone in their small temporary apartment on the outskirts of town, everything started to sink in. They had lost so much. Johnny would never see his old toys or childhood drawings again, and all his favorite books and games had been destroyed. It’s not like he had owned a lot of things, but they were important to him.

And his parents didn’t feel much better – their days consisted of endless planning, like what to do next and how to get back to a normal life. Maybe they would sell the family car, start using the bus, and try to get more money for a new house. Everything that formed part of Johnny’s hobbies had been destroyed. He felt a strange mix of fear, boredom, and sadness…

And then, his parents started fighting. Looking back on it, Johnny understands now that they were nervous and tired, but at the time he wanted to run away from it all, he didn’t want to hear it. But you can’t help seeing it when you have only one room to live in.

Eventually, he grew tired of just boiling in this soup of anger and despair, so he went outside to do…something! He couldn’t see his friends because they were too far away from him. So he had to improvise.

He climbed some trees, went for a walk near the river, drew a map of everything around him. For a few hours, he completely forgot about all the misfortunes his family and he had had to endure, and had fun the same way he did when he was a little boy. Eventually, Johnny got to know the other kids in the area, and funnily enough, they thought he was very cool after telling his story…

But he still felt quite sorry for his parents, who had to go to work and buy him food and solve other problems. He asked if he could start working himself and help out a bit, but honestly, how much can a 13-year-old boy really earn?

Johnny felt useless, and he didn’t like it. He wanted to do something.

Before he enjoyed his world of games and books, and he never let anyone into it. Now, this place where he lived had become his new escape from his problems. Suddenly, he thought to himself – maybe my parents also need something like this? Sure, it won’t magically solve all our problems, but perhaps if they saw how beautiful this place is and had just one happy day, it would make it a bit better for them?

So one day, he gave his parents a map he had made earlier and proposed to go on a tour of the area. His dad was very reluctant, but his mom liked the idea, and so eventually, they agreed. As they walked through the streets, he saw smiles on their faces for the first time in a long time. His dad even tried to climb a tree with him, but he wasn’t very successful!

After this, they slowly started to rebuild their family. They saw how beautiful their new home was, and decided to try to buy a house there. They told him that he could help by getting good grades (typical parents). Three years have passed since then, and they finally have a new place and new things to love. But they don’t rely on material possessions for happiness so much now.

From all of this, Johnny learned that while things are important, it’s more important to be a strong and interesting person no matter what. His dad later said, “you know, I’m glad it happened to us, because it made us so much stronger.” And Johnny agrees.

Watch Now Peru vs Denmark My First Week As A Father *emotional*

Shortly after my baby Wes was born, he got sent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). It completely tore me apart.

I have been trying to figure out how I want to tell this story for weeks. I kept recutting this video, reliving the emotions. It has been hard.

But it’s a story I want to share. I hope that it makes others who have been through or are currently going through similar experiences feel less alone. I hope that it inspires you personally, and fills you with hope that life, despite its challenges, after all, can be beautiful.

-Ned

P.S. A HUGE thank you to all of the nurses, doctors, and administrators at the NICU and all hospitals. We appreciate you so so much.
